Speaking of Personality...

Have you ever wished that you had multiple personalities?

In some respects I think everyone has multiple personalities. I know I'm not always the same person under different circumstances.

I agree with Dee. As for something more extreme - take it from a BAD guy (that's Bipolar Affective Disorder), it ain't all it's cracked up to be. Someone with Dissasociative Identity Disorder (I think that's the official DSM designation for multiple personalities) would probably be more emphatic.

Don't get me wrong. Though there was nothing good about depression, there was plenty good about mania, at least in the short term. It was like being a super hero. I could do anything! I was hyper-intelligent, hyper-energetic, hyper-optimistic, hyper-social. I could grasp any concept, take on any task, pass tests without bothering to study for them. However, the one thing I could not do was grasp the concept of "consequences". There was no such thing as risk, only reward. Therefore, I had other superpowers too: I could run roughshod over any relationship, sin boldly without a hint of shame, drive as fast and as insanely as I wanted to, and spend vast amounts of money without understanding that it was a limited resource. It was only through enormous grace that God both delivered me from (stupidity-induced) evil and led me not into (really major) temptation that year. I made it out with my life and my marriage (and those of innocent bystanders!) intact, which, if karma were real, would never have happened.

Whoo! Sorry. Something in that question let loose the confessional flood gates. I know you weren't asking about that kind of thing. I guess, to get back on point, my actual point is: perhaps the one personality you have is cooler than you think. I know I'm way happier with my "regular" one than with either of my "other" ones - even the super hero. :-)

Peace,
Mike
