Holding Steady...

Several weeks ago, I wrote a post about my grandma. She had spent the last year battling cancer. She came through the chemo and was told the cancer was gone. My mom and grandma took a road trip so my grandma could meet all of her great-grandchildren.

A few days after getting back home, my grandma started to get sick. She got so sick my mom took her to the hospital where they discovered she had pneumonia. Many tense weeks followed. But finally she was released to a pulmonary rehab center and then she was released to go home.

Not three days later she was having trouble breathing and had periods when she wasn't totally lucid. My mom took her back to the hospital were they put my grandma on a vent - her blood oxygen levels were not compatible with life.

After a couple of days on the vent, my grandma convinced the doctors she was of sound mind and that it was reasonable to respect her wish to be taken off the respirator.

Today the acted on her wishes. She is breathing on her own, but her blood oxygen levels are hovering around 75%. The doctors are unsure what will happen next. But for now, she seems to be holding steady...

Abba, hold your daughter and comfort her. Give her peace and rest.
